Seine net study trip for French group

A group of French fishermen from the west coast port of Les Sables d’Olonne spent a week at the end of October familiarising themselves with Icelandic methods of seine netting. Of the group of nine who spent a week with Lárus Thór Pálmason and his colleagues at NesNet, five are working skipper/owners of 24 metre
trawlers who are keen to adapt their vessels and fishing operations so that they can alternate trawling with seine netting, depending on the seasons and conditions.
The group spent time at the VT Fishing Supplies workshops in Grindavík with master netmaker Hördur Jónsson, studying full-size fishing gears and also were able to make use of the FSS mini-flume tank that is now  housed in the same building as VT Fishing Supplies.  Several of the group took the opportunity to spend a couple of days at sea with local seine net boats Farsæll and Benni Sæm, and the group was  also able to make a series of visits to companies and organisations, including the Directorate of Fisheries, Marorka, Icelandic New Energy, fishing gear suppliers Hampidjan and Ísfell, and also fishing company
Stakkavík.Daníel Sigurdsson from winch manufacturer Ósey introduced the French skippers to the type of seine net winches he has been producing both in  Iceland and in co-operation with Dutch company TCD for the European market, and finally Fridrik G Halldórsson of the Icelandic Federation of
Seine Netters made a presentation of the how the Federation works and who it represents.
The French fishermens’ trip to Iceland was organised entirely by NesNet and the group from Les Sables d’Olonne was able to leave Iceland after a highly satisfactory visit.

Hópur af frökkum komu að kynna sér dragnótaveiðar.

Hópur af Frökkum frá frönskum bæ á vesturströndinni sem heitir Les Sables d´Olone og þeir komu í viku ferð til að kynna sér veiðiaðferðir Íslendinga í dragnót eða snurvoð öðru nafni.  Hópurinn samanstóð af 9 mönnum og  voru hér í viku dagskrá á vegum NesNets ehf og sáu aðstandendur fyrirtækisins um dagskrá hópsins.  5 af frökkunum eru skipstjórar og eigendur togara sem eru um 24 metra langir og ætla að breyta þeim í fjölveiðiskip til að geta stundað mismunandi veiðar eftir árstíðum. Verið á dragnót hluta ársins og trolli hinn hluta þess. Hópurinn fór í Veiðarfæraþjónustuna í Grindavík og naut leiðsagnar Harðar Jónssonar framkvæmdastjóra sem sýndi uppsetningu dragnóta og fylgihluti þeirra.  Þá sýndi Lárus Pálmason líkön af dragnótum í mini tilraunatanki sem er í eigu Fjölbrautaskóla Suðurnesja en er nú staðsettur í húsnæði Veiðarfæraþjónustunnar.  Hluti hópsins fór á sjó með dragnótabátum og fóru með Benna Sæm KE og Farsæli KE og fá skipstjórar og áhafnir bátanna kærar þakkir fyrir frábærar móttökur um borð.  Þá voru nokkur fyrirtæki heimsótt að auki en þar má nefna Marorku, Ísfell, Hampiðjuna og Stakkavík.  Þá kom Daníels Sigurðsson frá Ósey hf og kynnti dragnótaspil og fleira sem fyrirtækið framleiðir.  Ósey er með verkstæði í Urk í Hollandi en söluskrifstofu á Íslandi.  Einnig kom Friðrik G. Halldórsson frá Samtökum Dragnótaveiðimanna og kynnti samtökin og einnig fræddi hann hópinn um íslenska fiskveiðistjórnunarkerfið ásamt því að lýsa veiðiaðferðum í dragnót fyrr og nú.  Ferðin til Íslands var skipulögð af NesNet ehf og fóru gestirnir heim til Les Sables d´Ollone hinir ánægðustu eftir fróðlega og skemmtilega kynnignarferð.
